About Pomme de Terre Lake

Lake Pomme de Terre, located in south central Missouri, is a 7,820 acre flood control lake built by the Corps of Engineers in 1961. Though small in comparison to other lakes in Missouri, Pomme de Terre has a lot to offer for a lake its size. Located in the Missouri Ozarks region, Pomme de Terre is a deep clear lake, 95 feet at the deepest part.

Lake Pomme de Terre is made up of two major arms that are named the same as the river and creek that feed it, the Pomme De Terre River and Lindley Creek. Both arms are long and winding with many coves. The Lake Pomme de Terre area offers motels, resorts, primitive and modern camping accommodations, shops, golf courses, restaurants, and historical interests. The lake area also provides a number of recreational activities which include boating, fishing, water skiing, hunting, and hiking.

Canoe rentals are also available for floating and fishing the Pomme de Terre River below the dam. For water sports, there are plenty of boat ramps around the lake along with four marinas, Highway 83, Lighthouse Harbor, Nemo Landing, and Pomme de Terre State Park. All four marinas are full service, and provide fuel, storage, tackle, store, and boat rentals.

Though most of the sought after gamefish are available in Lake Pomme de Terre, the lake’s popularity comes from the Muskie that are available. Though not depicted in the fish information area of this program, some information for Muskie is listed in this article. The Muskies, which are managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation, are fierce fighting fish that can reach upwards of 40 inches in length and can be caught all year long. Definitely not an ultralight tackle fish. Other fish available in Lake Pomme de Terre are black bass, crappie, bluegill, white bass, catfish, and walleye.
